Shasta View Pygmy Goats

My pig friends kept teasing me about walking my Hampshire goat through the State Fair so we took a photo with my two Hampshire barrows, Katy, Sarah and Mardi Gras -it was a good state fair that year!

The immortal Imax.  He was one of the first Shasta View pygmy goats and is missed greatly.

Kids and goats - nothing better!

Shasta View Pygmy Goats (SVPG) is located in the high desert country in Klamath Falls, Oregon with a spectacular view of Mount Shasta.  We started slowly when a local girl came to me several years ago and asked if she could show her pygmy goat through our 4-H swine club.  The first answer was no!  Gradually we said ok and the pygmy goats worked their way in, gently overcoming resistance with their natural charisma and charm.  As you pygmy goat enthusiasts will understand, I fell in love with the little critters and SVPG was born in 2007.

SVGP is solely owned but is a partnership in many manners with family, friends and 4-H members.  Most of the goats are co-owned so everyone can enjoy the opportunity to own, show and interact with these adorable creatures.  Showmanship is a priority at SVGP.  We participate in as many showmanship contests as are offered to help hone our skills in the arena and also help the younger generation understand its importance.

Wethers are our mainstay but the does are well loved also.  We are located in a suburban locale so cannot keep bucks on premises.

We are centrally located between Portland, Oregon and Sacramento, California so we have had the opportunity to meet breeders and pygmy goat enthusiasts all up and down the west coast.  Our biggest concern is deciding if we are heading north or south for a show – a good problem to have!

The biggest reason I have stayed with the pygmy goat world is the people.  The willingness to help each other out and work with our youth and each other is rewarding and fun.  I have made friends who will be with me my entire life.
